Dream Dictionary

To dream that you are drinking water from a goblet, foretells of unfavourable business affairs. To see an ancient goblet in your dream, signifies that you will receive benefits and favours from strangers.

Man has created many symbols for wealth and class throughout history. Even the earliest of civilizations used specific objects to signify status. One of the earliest forms of power recognized by western peoples is the chalice. The most famous of which is the “Holy Grail.” Believed to be the cup that held the blood of Jesus Christ, the “Holy Grail” will cure anyone who drinks from it. This led many British kings to hunt for it while about theircrusades. Though never found, this firmly implants the object “chalice” as a symbol of power and piety.Who can envision a king sitting to sup on a fine meal without his royal goblet of wine and spirit?

Truly, these were some of history’s first. The Catholic church heightens the goblet as a symbol of power and opulence by using ornately decorated ones in symbolic spiritual rituals such as the Eucharist.

Around that same time, Italian merchant bankers create a new kind of royalty not passed by birth but by wealth. To signify their status they acted as royalty. They built castles, and surrounded themselves in the finest items of the period – including glass and gold. It is reported that the wealthy shattered their fine goblets made of gold and crystal as a festive way of expressing their wealth. As a matter of fact, glass artists were so revered by the wealthy, that a royal man would not loose rank by marrying a glassblower’s daughter.

As you can see, goblets have long been associated with elite power, wealth, status, opulence, and class.

(And you don’t even have to join a crusade to find one.)
